Khanna Schultz is a Brooklyn-based office with a global outlook.

Founded in 2006 by Vrinda Khanna and Robert Schultz, our office has completed projects in locations ranging from rural Kansas to suburban Detroit to urban Mumbai.  Each design starts with a deep reading of the client’s aspirations, the particulars of the site, and its cultural and physical context.  Our goal is work that is fresh and inventive but also timeless.  Construction and detailing are a source of inspiration, balanced by a playful sensibility toward form.  We do projects at multiple scales and in a diverse range of budgets, regarding each one as an opportunity for discovery and building new relationships.

We have been recognized with citations from multiple awards programs, including AIA New York, AIA Brooklyn, AIA Connecticut, The Architectural League of New York and Architizer A+.  Our work has been featured in Wallpaper, Domus, Icon, Abitare, and Dwell along with many other books and periodicals.

WE LOVE TO DISCOVER NEW PLACES, WHETHER THEY ARE AROUND THE CORNER OR ACROSS THE GLOBE.

All projects – whether they are new construction or renovation – require an engagement with place. Participating in a new setting and understanding its building culture is a constant source of inspiration.

Sustainable construction need not be an expensive add on.

It should be organic, starting with careful detailing, right-sizing elements, and design to local conditions. We pay special attention to the integrity and efficiency of the building envelope, along with passive solar strategies. Where appropriate, we integrate alternative energy systems into our designs in a considered way.

Ours is not a top down approach - we are constantly learning from our clients, craftspeople, and collaborators.

A construction project requires participation by a large and ever-changing cast. Each participant brings a set of experiences, skills, and viewpoints that can make the project stronger.

Drawings and visualizations help us - and our clients - begin to inhabit our work while the design unfolds.

We follow an intense iterative design process, and we work hard to present our ideas in a relatable and uplifting fashion. Engaging all stakeholders during design simplifies the construction process that follows.

Visits to construction sites are one of our favorite parts of our work.

All projects evolve during construction. Seeing a project take shape over weeks and months is an unparalleled pleasure. Surprises are part of the process, and can be opportunities to make the final product richer.
